The bear cub got caught in the fence in an Evergreen neighborhood over the weekend.
EVERGREEN, Colo. — Colorado Parks and Wildlife rangers and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies helped free a bear cub caught in a barbed wire fence over the weekend.
On June 1, neighbors in Evergreen heard the bear cub in distress with its mother nearby, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) rangers, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Jefferson County Animal Control officers responded to the call.
The mother bear was tranquilized so crews could safely attend to the cub, the sheriff’s office said on social media. Rangers were able to cut the wiring on the fence and set the bear cub free, the sheriff’s office said.
Once the cub was free and rangers were safe from the mom, crews helped to wake the mother back up so she could be with the cub again.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that if anyone ever sees wildlife in distress, contact the sheriff’s office. Do not approach the animal and do not try to help.
