Police said an armed juvenile was barricaded inside a house with a relative Wednesday afternoon.

SEVERANCE, Colo. — A barricade situation in northern Colorado Wednesday ended with two people dead.

The Severance Police Department said shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, dispatch received a call of reported gunshots fired in the 800 block of Emerand Lake Street in the Hidden Valley subdivision and a shelter-in-place was issued.

It was reported that a juvenile had fired two shots, hitting a vehicle across the street, and then barricaded himself in a home with a relative. Police said an additional shot was fired inside the house.

When police arrived, they helped an elderly man climb over the back fence at the home and immediately secured the scene with help from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Weld County SWAT, Colorado State Patrol, and the Windsor, Greeley, Eaton and Ault police departments.

Severance Police said due to the incident’s proximity to schools, Severance Middle School and Severance High School were placed on secure status as a precautionary measure. At around 3:30 p.m., students were safely released.

At around 7:30 p.m., SWAT went inside and searched the house. They found a dead victim and another person with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Their names have not been released.
