Many took to social media to express frustration over the scarce availability of the passes.
WASHINGTON — Applebee’s yearlong subscription for weekly date nights sold out within minutes on Monday.
The restaurant chain’s website appeared to crash on Monday soon after noon Eastern Time, when the coveted $200 “Date Night Pass” went on sale.
“Due to popular demand, the Applebee’s Date Night Pass has sold out,” the chain posted on its website a short time later.
The company did not disclose how many passes were sold or how quick it officially sold out. Applebee’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The passes included up to $30 of food and non-alcoholic beverages per use and are valid 52 times between Feb. 1 and Jan. 31, 2025. The pass can only be used once per 24-hour period, according to the restaurant.
When all 52 discounts are redeemed, the pass has a value of roughly $1,500. The pass does not cover gratuities or taxes.
The limited-time subscription pass was only available through Applebee’s website and was not available for purchase in restaurants.
Many took to social media to express frustration over the scarce availability of subscription passes.
“Within the span of probably 30 seconds the Applebee’s date night pass was in my cart available and then sold out,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Others noted not that they didn’t even see an option for purchase when accessing the site.
“Literally spamming refresh on @Applebees for the date night and didn’t even see the option to purchase one. What’d they sell, like 5 of them?” another user said on X.
Those who managed to snag a pass can present it to Applebee’s servers when ordering. Those placing online orders should enter the 10-character promo code on the back of the pass into the promo section during checkout.
The pass can only be used once per 24-hour period, according to the promotion.
