The parents welcomed a healthy baby boy Wednesday evening alongside E-470 near Parker Road after trying to get to the hospital from Windsor.
PARKER, Colo. — A former 9NEWS employee is used to helping in the newsroom, but now she and her new son are making the news.
Caitlin Kingsbury worked behind the scenes at 9NEWS for about seven years. On Wednesday, she and her husband Cole Kingsbury welcomed their third son on the side of E-470.
According to Cole, the parents were planning to have Caitlin induced on Thursday night, but the baby had other plans. The family started staying at Cole’s parents’ house in Littleton to be closer to the hospital where Caitlin was set to deliver since the family now lives in Windsor.
As a family, they went up to Windsor for one of their older son’s back-to-school nights and decided to relax at their house for a bit before making the drive back down.
Caitlin started feeling some contractions, but Cole said in a Facebook post that she thought it was a false alarm. She soon realized that it wasn’t.
Cole said at around 4:30 p.m., the family got in their car and started making their way south to Sky Ridge Medical Center to be with their doctor.
When they were nearing their destination, Caitlin’s water broke 10 minutes away from the hospital. Cole called 911 and Conner Blinzler, a South Metro Fire Rescue Dispatcher, picked up the call.
“Figuring out where he was at, I got him convinced to pull over because I figured in the time frame [Cole] had given, they weren’t going to make it to the hospital,” Blinzler said.
Emergency crews couldn’t arrive soon enough to help deliver the baby. Cale was making his way into the world and Blinzler had to walk Cole through how to help deliver the baby.
“I don’t even know if there was two pushes, but there was at least one push and the baby was born. You could hear it start crying,” Blinzler said. “[There was a] sigh of relief from both mom and dad.”
Crews didn’t arrive until 10 minutes after Cale was born. Officials closed one lane of E-470 to clean up the mom and baby, cut the umbilical cord and escorted the family to the hospital.

Cole confirmed in a Facebook post that everyone is happy and healthy. For his other two kids, one slept through most of the ordeal while the other tried to keep everyone happy and calm.
After everything settled, Blinzler was able to visit the family in the hospital.
“It’s just something that brings a lot of joy to what we do.” he explained. “Being able to come full circle [to] meet the family and see what I helped do truly is rewarding.”
