Elor, whose lives part-time in Colorado Springs, was trying to become the youngest American wrestler ever to win a gold medal.

PARIS, France — U.S. wrestling phenom Amit Elor completed a dominating performance in her Olympic debut by winning the gold medal at the Paris Games.

Elor, 20 – who’s from Walnut Creek, California, and splits her time between her hometown and Colorado Springs – won 3-0 in women’s freestyle wrestling over Meerim Zhumanazarova, of Kyrgyzstan, who was the 2020 Games bronze medalist at 149 pounds.

Elor defeated the No. 1 seed, Turkey’s Buse Tosun Cavusoglu, 10-2 in her first match, then knocked off Poland’s Wiktoria Choluj 8-0 in the quarterfinals before beating North Korea’s Pak Sol-gum in the semifinals.

She became the youngest American wrestler, male or female, to win a gold medal.

Elor has also won nine gold World Championship medals. Her older sister and older brother were also wrestlers. They both won junior national titles, which inspired her to start wrestling.
