The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office said one man suffered minor injuries, while the other man has life-threatening injuries.
BASALT, Colo. — Two men were were rescued from the Roaring Fork River in Basalt after their boats capsized Saturday afternoon.
The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 call was made just after 2 p.m. stating that the men’s rafts had overturned at the Basalt Whitewater Park and the men were being carried downstream.
A slew of first responders rushed to the area to search for the men.
Responders began looking for the men at the pedestrian bridge at the 7-Eleven in Basalt to Willits Lane, which is about three driving miles to the west.
The men were spotted and pulled from the river near Two Rivers Road and Colorado Highway 82 in Basalt.
One of the rafters, a 74-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Valley View Hospital, the sheriff’s office said. The other rafter, a 61-year-old, was treated on scene after suffering minor injuries.
The sheriff’s office said river flows are running near peak levels and said whitewater enthusiasts need to be aware of rapidly changing conditions.
