Paddleboarders blown into water on Denver metro lake

Westminster Fire said weather moved in quickly, knocking the boarders into the water.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Some paddleboarders were knocked into the waters of Standley Lake in Westminster after a quick-moving weather event came through the area Friday afternoon.

Westminster Fire Department (WFD) said several paddleboarders were in the water needing assistance. Fire crews were on scene at 2:30 p.m. assessing the situation along with park rangers.

About 2:45 p.m., Westminster Fire said all of the paddleboarders had been helped out of the water. Park rangers and fire crews were sweeping the area to make sure no one else needed help, fire officials said.

Winds could be heard whipping through a nearby 9NEWS crews’ microphones during a news conference being held by the NTSB in relation to a plane that crashed Friday morning.
