CHANNEL 4 commentator Steve Bower was told he “needs a geography lesson” during England’s clash with Bosnia.
Bower, 51, was in the commentary box alongside former Three Lions goalkeeper Rob Green at St James’ Park.
England boss Gareth Southgate chose to experiment with his side as he prepares to whittle down his squad to 26.
During tonight’s 3-0 win, Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite made his Three Lions debut.
Branthwaite, 21, replaced Marc Guehi in the 62nd minute.
The centre-back was born in Carlisle and came through the ranks at his hometown club before signing for Everton in 2020.
As Branthwaite came on at St James’ Park, Bower said: “Carlisle born and back in the North East.”
Fans were quick to point out his error.
Carlisle is located 60 miles west of Newcastle.
One social media user wrote: “This commentator needs a geography lesson.”

While a second responded: “Yes that instantly irritated me too. The commentary is almost as poor as this game.”
A third commented: “Branthwaite being from Carlisle isn’t ‘back’ in the North East. Please pass on to whichever numpty is commentating.”
And another added: “C4 commentator gets his geography in a muddle.”
Carlisle United proudly congratulated Branthwaite on his achievement.
They wrote on social media: “One of our own.
“Congratulations on making your @England debut, Jarrad!”
Everton, meanwhile, added: “First cap of many. Fully deserved!”
