Wilbert Howard, 53, is a 17-year veteran of the Loveland Police Department.
LOVELAND, Colo. — Fort Collins Police arrested a Loveland Police officer on Thursday on suspicion of assault and child abuse.
According to the Loveland Police Department, the reported incident took place in a home in Fort Collins and police there were notified about it on Nov. 2.
Loveland Police said in a news release that after an investigation, 53-year-old Wilbert Howard was arrested Thursday afternoon. The release said Howard was off-duty at the time of the reported incident. Loveland Police said they are not releasing further information due to legal protections regarding victims who are under 18 years old.
The release said the reported incident does not have any connection with Howard’s official duties as a police officer. He was booked at the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:
- Second-degree assault, a felony
- Child abuse, a misdemeanor
- Crime of violence enhancement


Howard, a 17-year veteran of the Loveland Police Department, was placed on administrative leave and an internal investigation is underway, police said.
Fort Collins Police Services is the lead agency in the investigation.
