The SEC Player of the Year made four straight free throws to ice the game against Texas and help Tennessee advance to Sweet 16.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tennessee guard and SEC Player of the Year Dalton Knecht was instrumental in the Vols’ second-round victory against Texas, and drained four free throws in a row to ice the victory against the Longhorns and help the Vols advance to the Sweet 16 for the second-straight year.

He said he wanted the game to be in his hands in the closing minutes of the game.

“I told the whole team that I wanted that ball, and they said ‘go get the ball,'” Knecht said. “The team had the confidence in me, the coaches had the confidence in me.”

Knecht struggled shooting from the floor for most of the contest and finished 5-for-18 shooting, but the four makes at the line were a dream come true for the Tennessee star.

“That’s something that me and my dad were always watching during March, those clutch free throws,” Knecht said. “After the game, I pointed up to him.”

Knecht finished with a game-high 18 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
