COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo — The man accused of fatally shooting his roommate and a second person inside a dorm at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will make his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
Nicholas Jordan, 25, was arrested Monday morning in connection with the shooting on Friday that killed Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24.
Both were found dead in a room in the Crestone House dorm around 6 a.m. Friday after several calls reported shots fired. The shooting prompted a lockdown and shelter-in-place order, and the campus was closed Friday. The lockdown was later lifted.
Police said Knopp was a registered student at UCCS and Montgomery was not. Jordan was also a student at the school and was Knopp’s roommate; however, no motive for the shooting has been provided.
In a statement, the university said Knopp was a senior studying music and was a member of the Visual and Performing Arts department. They said he was an accomplished guitar player and an extremely talented musician.
A coworker of Montgomery described her as a shy, quiet person, but someone who always had a bright smile on her face that could light up a room.
Monday afternoon, the campus community gathered for a solidarity walk to honor and remember Knopp and Montgomery. Hundreds of people, including students, staff, faculty, community members and police officers walked from Roaring Fork dining hall to El Pomar Plaza to show their support.
