COLORADO, USA — The first snow storm for the 2023-24 season swept into the Denver metro area and eastern plains on Saturday. The storm started on Friday in the mountains.

Most people around Denver awoke Saturday to find a dusting to around a quarter- to half-inch of snow. After an overcast morning, the sun peeked out for about an hour, and then the main part of the storm system began moving in.

Snow started up again around 2 p.m. and steadily began ramping up with some heavy bands forming around 5 p.m. Douglas County has the highest totals along the Front Range as of 8:45 p.m.

Snow totals reported to the National Weather Service in Boulder(times reported):

Castle Rock – 7 inches (8 p.m.)

5 miles southeast of Parker – 6.5 (7 p.m.)

2 miles south of Parker – 8 (10 p.m.)

3 miles northeast of Cherry Creek Reservoir – 6.4 (10:00 p.m.)

Castle Pines – 8 (8:30 p.m.)

Bennett – 4.6 (6:30 p.m.)

Denver International Airport – 2.9 (6 p.m.)

15 miles east of Castle Rock – 8 (8:30 p.m.)

The snow was a special gift for Colorado’s ski areas. Arapahoe Basin’s snow stake showed a few inches had fallen as of 9 p.m.

A-Basin will be the first ski area to open for the season on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
