EATON, Colo. — A man who fatally stabbed his mother in 2021 while he was serving parole for a prior assault conviction, received the maximum sentence following his conviction in November.
Gabriel Faudoa, 34, was found guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated motor vehicle theft. On Jan. 18, a Weld County judge sentenced him to 48 years for the murder conviction and three years for the theft charge. They’ll run consecutively for a total of 51 years, which is the maximum sentence he faced.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, he stabbed his mother, June Martinez Faudoa, 54 times. At his trial, he claimed that he was suffering from methamphetamine-induced psychosis at the time.
“This is not merely a case about drug abuse or making an isolated ‘poor decision.’ This is a case of evil, pure and simple,” . Deputy District Attorney Travis Winter said at the sentencing hearing
Martinez Faudoa, who was known as “Jean,” was found dead just before 8 a.m. on May 11, 2021, in her home in the 400 block of Wall Street just outside Eaton city limits.
Faudoa was identified as a suspect based on witness statements and after the incident, he left the area in a stolen vehicle, according to investigators.
Around 8:30 a.m., he was located and detained by deputies and Eaton police near 5th and Wall Streets in Eaton.
Faudoa was convicted in 2019 of second-degree assault involving strangulation, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. He was sentenced on Jan. 30, 2019, to six years in prison, but was paroled in August 2020 after serving just 20 months.
