19-year-old detained after Aurora shooting

Aurora Police said the shooting took place in the 24600 block of East Applewood Drive at around 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Police detained a 19-year-old “person of interest” for questioning after a man was shot Sunday afternoon, the department said via X, formerly known as Twitter.

The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, police said. The victim and the detained teen reportedly know each other.

According to the post, the shooting took place at around 12:45 p.m. in the 24600 block of East Applewood Drive in Aurora— in the area of The Villages at Southlands Park.

A spokesperson for the department said the shooting took place inside a residence. 

There was no current threat to the public, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. 

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
