Denver Police said an officer fired a round a man brandishing a knife inside the Whole Foods located at 17th and Wewatta streets.
DENVER — A police officer fired a shot at a man wielding a knife inside a downtown Denver grocery store Wednesday evening. No one was hit by the round fired.
Denver Police (DPD) said officers were called at 6:20 p.m. to the Whole Foods located at 17th and Wewatta streets on a report of someone brandishing a knife. An officer arrived and while contacting the man, a shot was fired, police said.
Officers then Tasered the man and took him into custody, according to DPD.
This incident happened roughly four hours after Denver police officers shot and injured a man near the intersection of 47th Avenue and York Street.
In that earlier shooting, police said the man had threatened people with a gun near 45th Avenue and St. Paul Street. During a briefing Wednesday afternoon, Chief Ron Thomas said the gun the man had was an Airsoft gun that looked like a real gun.
The man shot at York Street was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was expected to survive, Chief Thomas said.
