The towing company that faced hundreds of complaints and a state investigation is now facing allegations of tax fraud, according to court records.

DENVER — The towing company that faced hundreds of complaints and a state investigation is now facing allegations of tax fraud – the former chief financial officer of Wyatt’s Towing said he’s filed a whistleblower complaint with Colorado’s Democratic Attorney General over issues at the company, according to court records.

The allegations come from court documents in a back and forth between Robert Plimpton, Wyatt’s former CFO,  and the company, Towing Holdings.

Court documents show Plimpton said he found evidence of improper accounting and that Wyatt’s Towing was violating tax code. After he reported it, Plimpton said he was fired.

Before he left, Plimpton took around 100 confidential documents from Wyatt’s, according to the court documents. Soon after, Towing Holdings sued Plimpton, demanding to get those documents back.

In those court filings, Plimpton said he took the documents for the sole purpose of turning them over when he reported Wyatt’s Towing to the Attorney General’s office.

9NEWS reached out to the AG’s office about Plimpton’s whistleblower claim and what it entails. They told us they’re unable to comment on the matter.

But, this isn’t the first time Wyatt’s Towing has come under fire. For months, people have accused the company of predatory towing practices and openly disregarding a new state law that would protect drivers.

Back in August, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser’s office confirmed that it had opened an investigation into Wyatt’s Towing after many victims came forward. The attorney general’s office reported 950-complaints were filed against Wyatt’s with the Public Utilities Commission in the past year.

9NEWS reached out to attorneys for both Plimpton and Towing Holdings. Neither has responded.
