LITTLETON, Colorado — A middle school student was hit and killed while riding their bike near the school Tuesday morning, the Littleton Police Department said.
Police said the crash happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of South Elati Street and West Arapahoe Road. The bicyclist died on the scene, police said.
The victim was a seventh-grader at nearby Euclid Middle School.
Police said the driver of the car stayed on the scene. They said no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
“Any loss of life is difficult, but the loss of a child is heartbreaking,” police said in a news release. “LPD is grieving with the family and friends of the child and with those impacted in our community.”
In a letter to families, Euclid principal Amanda Hurley said counselors, administrators and members of the district support team are available at the school “and will be for as long as we need them to provide support to our students, staff and community.”
