The interstate is closed in both directions, and CSP said the closure will likely last into Monday.
PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. — A portion of Interstate 25 is closed in both directions just north of Pueblo after a train carrying coal derailed onto the interstate Sunday afternoon.
The Colorado State Patrol said it happened just before 3:30 p.m. near mile marker 107. which is just south of the Purcell Boulevard exit. The interstate is closed in both directions, and CSP said the closure will likely last into Monday.
Traffic is being detoured onto Highway 50 and Highway 115.
Photos show multiple train cars derailed onto the interstate. A portion of the bridge carrying the train over the interstate also collapsed. Coal was spilled across the road.
CSP said first responders were working to reach the driver of a semi caught under the collapse. As of Sunday afternoon, it was unclear whether any other vehicles were involved.
Crews from multiple agencies were responding to the derailment.
