The service for officer Evan Dunn, who was killed in a crash by a suspected drunk driver while responding to an earlier crash, will be held Wednesday.

DENVER — Flags are to fly at half-staff on Wednesday across Colorado.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sundown on Wednesday to honor a Colorado police officer who killed while responding to a crash last week.

Golden Police Officer Evan Dunn, 33, was struck and killed by a suspected impaired driver while responding to a crash on Colorado Highway 58.

Polis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on the day of Dunn’s memorial service, which will be held Wednesday. Officials said the service will be private, will not be open to the public, and there are no plans to record it or provide a live stream.

However, the community is invited to line the streets Wednesday ahead of the memorial service.

Prior to the service, Dunn will be transported to the venue from C-470, north on Lucent Boulevard to eastbound West County Line Road. As a result, West County Line Road will be closed from Lucent Boulevard to South Elati Street beginning around 10 a.m.

Community members are invited to show support along W County Line Road, between South Santa Fe Drive and Lucent Boulevard, or at the Golden Police Department Memorial.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Dunn, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends on the Golden Police Department,” Polis said. “We also hope for a speedy recovery for the officer who was injured in this incident.

“Our law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect Coloradans day in and day out, and that’s exactly what Officer Dunn and his partner, Officer Bethany Grusing, were doing. We are grateful for their service and commitment to keeping Coloradans safe.”

Three other people were also injured in the collision that killed Dunn, including Officer Bethany Grusing, his field training officer. Stephen Geer, 43, was arrested in connection with the crash.
