DENVER — The Denver Zoo is welcoming a new member to the family, a nine-year-old tiger named Chlojo.

Chlojo is a critically endangered Sumatran tiger who comes from the Nashville Zoo on a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums

The Denver Zoo said Sumatran tigers are the smallest tiger subspecies and there aren’t many of them left— only 600 still live in the wild. They can only be found on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, and their habitat is threatened by logging, palm oil plantations and poaching.

The zoo said because tigers are generally solitary animals, Chlojo and their two Amur tigers, 12-year-old Viktor and 13-year-old Nikita, will rotate throughout the habitats in The Edge.

The zoo’s animal care specialists said Chlojo is adjusting well and will soon start making appearances in The Edge.

You can buy tickets on the Denver Zoo’s website
