The robber targets Hispanic people, especially those who speak Spanish, the Aurora Police Department said.

AURORA, Colo. — The Aurora Police Department asked for the public’s help on Wednesday in identifying a man who has committed multiple armed robberies since August and targets Hispanic people, especially those who speak Spanish.

Most of the 12 reported robberies have happened in the area of South Chambers Road and Alameda Avenue, most of them after dark. Police believe the suspect lives in the area.

“All of the victims are reporting a very similar interaction with the suspect,” said Faith Goodrich, the sergeant in charge of APD’s gang and robbery investigations team.

Goodrich said all the victims had been held at gunpoint, while the suspect demanded their personal belongings.

In one of the robberies, the man fired shots. In another, on Oct. 9, the Community College of Aurora CentreTech Campus was placed on secure perimeter due to a police search for the man.

No one has been seriously hurt in the robberies, police said.

Police said the robber often wears a black face mask or ski mask, a black hoodie and dark clothing.

An Aurora Police spokesperson provided the following dates and locations of the reported robberies:

  • Aug. 24, 15570 E. Center Ave.
  • Aug. 24, 15410 E. Center Ave.
  • Aug. 24, 15501 E. Alameda Pkwy.
  • Sept. 8 15530 E. Center Ave.
  • Sept. 18, 15540 E. Center Ave.
  • Sept. 20, 15720 E. Alameda Pkwy.
  • Sept. 20, 15510 E. Center Ave.
  • Sept. 27, 490 S. Chambers Road
  • Oct. 3, 15470 E. Center Ave.
  • Oct. 6, 15530 E. Center Ave.
  • Oct. 9, 15501 E. Alameda Pkwy.
  • Oct. 11, 15899 E. 13th Place

Seven of these incidents were reported from the Crossroads at the City Center apartment complex. The owner of the complex said 98% of the people who live there solely speak Spanish.

Goodrich said sometimes immigrants are nervous to report crimes to police and can be a target for suspects because of this. But, she said, APD is not Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“It doesn’t matter what your immigration status, so if you have been victimized, please call us,” Goodrich said.

Aurora Police released a short surveillance video of the robber in the social media post below.

Goodrich said people in the area should be aware of their surroundings, travel in groups, and stick to lighted areas. She said it’s better to surrender belongings if someone does approach you rather than risk your life.

Anyone with information on the robberies can contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
