A shelter-in-place order was issued at 9 a.m. Tuesday for the area of 175 Spruce Street due to “law enforcement activity.”

ELIZABETH, Colorado — A shelter-in-place order has been issued in Elizabeth Tuesday morning.

The order was issued at 9 a.m. Tuesday for the area of 175 Spruce Street due to “law enforcement activity” near Fitzgerald Apartments, the Town of Elizabeth said via Facebook

Residents are being asked to stay where they are until more information is available. The town directed those who need shelter to Town Hall. Although the hall is closed for business due to the shelter-in-place order, people can get assistance by entering the Board Room through the side door of Town Hall.

Officials will hold a briefing about the shelter-in-place order at around 11:25 a.m.

Shortly after the shelter-in-place order was issued, Elizabeth Police said there was “increased police activity” in the 100 block of Spruce Street and asked people to avoid the area.

At around 10:30 a.m., the Elizabeth Fire Protection District reported police activity on South Elbert Street and said it was closed from Highway 86 to East Maple Street. The agency also asked people to stay away from that area.
