WASHINGTON — Major League Baseball legend Pete Rose has died, according to reports.

The former Cincinnati Reds star, who also had stints on the Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos, passed away Monday, TMZ reported. ESPN’S Eduardo Perez announced on Sportscenter that Rose’s son, Pete Rose Jr., confirmed his father’s death.

Rose, MLB’s all-time hits leader, died at his home in Las Vegas, his agent confirmed to TMZ.

Rose won three World Series titles and was the 1973 N.L. MVP, and earned 17 All-Star Game nods. He left a controversial legacy after he was banned from baseball in 1989 after the league found he was betting on baseball.

The Hall of Fame’s board decided in 1991 that players on the permanently ineligible list also may not appear on the Hall ballot. Rose asked the Hall in 2016 to change the rule. He has repeatedly pushed in recent years to have his ban lifted as MLB added more partnerships with betting sites.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
