Two conductors on the train were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

BOULDER, Colo. — A train collided with train cars in Boulder Thursday night injuring two conductors who were on board.

Boulder Police first posted about the crash on the social platform X around 10:43 p.m. According to police, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train was traveling southbound from Valmont Road to Pearl Parkway when it crashed into some train cars on the track, derailing some cars.

Two conductors who were on board at the time were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

In an update, police said the crash happened north of Boulder Community Hospital. Police expect part of Pearl Parkway to be closed for the next few days. Part of Valmont Road is also closed, police said.

Xcel is on scene, working on a power line that was damaged in the crash, police said.

Police originally mentioned a possible fuel leak, but now think it could be algae and do not believe there is a threat to a nearby creek.

The public is asked to avoid Pearl Parkway near 48th Court.

BNSF will be investigating the crash.
