To Colton Smith, the Ford F350 was much more than a truck — it was a connection to his father.
BRIGHTON, Colo. — Police in Brighton have found a stolen truck that was worth far more than the sum of its parts to its owner.
Colton Smith’s pickup truck was stolen from the parking lot of an AMC movie theater in Highlands Ranch in June. But to Smith, it was more than a pickup truck — it was a connection to his father, Steve, a fire marshal who had passed away more than two years earlier.
“I want those memories back,” Smith told 9NEWS after the truck was stolen.
Brighton Police said the black 2006 Ford F350 was recovered on Sunday after officers received a report of an unoccupied suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of North 5th Avenue. Officers learned that it was stolen and had it towed to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to investigate it further, according to a police spokesperson.
Brighton Police said there was no surveillance footage available nearby, but the person who reported the suspicious vehicle told them they saw a female driving it before parking it and getting into a gray sedan with a male driver.
The truck has now been returned to its rightful owner, minus a stereo. Smith said the brake lines had been cut, but he was able to replace them using skills he learned from his father.
