Light rail service for the D Line was suspended, and the E, H, R and W lines were all significantly delayed Friday morning.
DENVER — RTD said that multiple light rail lines are experiencing significant delays Friday morning due to a global outage involving Microsoft Friday.
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) said service was suspended for the D line until further notice
Bus shuttles were operating between I-25/Broadway and Littleton/Mineral, and riders were advised to transfer to the E or H lines for service to Union Station.
However, a few minutes later RTD also said the E, H, R and W lines are all impacted, with limited service available and real-time tracking unavailable.
There are no current impacts to commuter rail services on the A, B, G, and N lines.
A widespread outage involving CrowdStrike that is impacting access to Microsoft 365 apps and services disrupted flights and businesses around the world.
RTD said the outage initially impacted several servers used in transit operations including Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. Issues related to the former have been resolved, and real-time vehicle information was restored around 8 a.m.
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition servers, which are used to support rail operations and communication, continue to be impacted but the outage. A reduced number of light rail trains are running across the system because of this issue.
“Staff is closely working with RTD’s vendors to resolve the issue and restore service levels. At this time, RTD expects the disruption to last most of today but does not have an exact estimated time frame for the issue to be fully resolved,” RTD said in a release.
Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed at Denver International Airport Friday morning due to the outage, and operations at Colorado Division of Motor Vehicle locations were also impacted.
