Winds from the north are carrying smoke into the Denver area.
DENVER — Over the past few days you may have noticed haze in the skies over Colorado: That’s due to wildfire smoke.
The smoke doesn’t originate in Colorado but rather is being pushed into our area by winds coming out of the north. Wildfires burning in California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington are the source of the smoke we are seeing and smelling outside.
More than 3 million acres are currently burning in 33 fires in the Pacific northwest states of Oregon, California, Idaho, Washington and Montana.
There will be more smoke in the skies, off and on, through the weekend and likely into the early part of next week.
On Thursday night, the forecast shows smoke across parts of the Eastern Plains. By Friday morning and afternoon, the smoke could drift farther into the Denver metro area.
As more smoke enters the state, it is advised to limit time outdoors.
