KHOU 11 confirmed the news Sunday morning. At this point, a cause of death is unknown.
HOUSTON — Former Houston Texans wide receiver and kick returner Jacoby Jones has died, KHOU 11’s Zack Tawatari confirmed Sunday morning.
At this point, details of how he died have not been released.
Jones was a third-round draft pick by Houston out of Lane College in 2007. He went on to play five seasons with the Texans, from 2007 through the 2011 season before moving on to Baltimore as a free agent, where he was part of a Super Bowl-winning team.
While in Houston, Jones reached the end zone on three punt returns and one kickoff. And as a receiver, he had 11 touchdowns while a Texan.
He played for Baltimore from 2012 through 2014. He was on the 2013 Ravens team that won the Super Bowl. In that game, Jones returned a kick 108 yards, which was one for the record books.
Jones finished his NFL career with 203 receptions for 2,733 yards with 14 touchdowns, according to ESPN.com. He had nine kick returns for touchdowns, as well. Four of them were on punts and five on kickoffs.
He most recently was named head coach of the arena football team, the Beaumont Renegades.
Houston Texans legend JJ Watt posted to social media about Jones, calling him “one of the most fun-loving teammates and people I’ve ever been around.”
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson also posted to social media about Jones’ passing.
And more former teammates and players also posted their condolences.
