The FBI is investigating the deadly shooting in Canyon Village.

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — A person was killed and a park ranger was injured in a shooting in Yellowstone National Park Thursday morning.

Rangers responded to Canyon Village in the central part of the park Wednesday night for a report of a person with a gun who was making threats, according to a release from the park.

When rangers contacted the person there was an exchange of gunfire between them, killing the person and injuring a park ranger.

The ranger was taken to the hospital.

The park said the name of the person who was killed is not being released at this time.

The FBI is leading the investigation with support from National Park Service special agents, and the Canyon Lodge complex will remain closed while the investigation is ongoing.
