Aurora Fire Rescue said a pump was leaking pool chemicals into the air Friday afternoon. The pool was closed.

AURORA, Colo. — Five people were taken to the hospital after a chemical leak at an Aurora swimming pool Friday afternoon.

Aurora Fire Rescue said they responded to a public outdoor swimming pool near Del Mar Park on East 6th Avenue at North Del Mar Circle about 2 p.m. for a hazardous materials call. They learned that the pool maintenance personnel had found a pump leaking pool chemicals into the air and shut it down before the fire department got there.

When the fire department arrived, their hazardous materials team evacuated the pool, monitored the air quality and treated people who were injured. Seven people had injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and five of them were taken to the hospital.

Aurora Fire said the pool has been closed due to inclement weather and will be repaired.
