PARIS, France — A Colorado rower competes in the semifinals of women’s pair, and the U.S. women’s soccer team is looking for a third win in pool play. Here are the Colorado athletes to cheer at the Summer Olympics in Paris on Wednesday.
3×3 basketball
The U.S. men’s 3×3 basketball team plays their second game in the pool round against Poland. They lost their first game Tuesday to Serbia, 22-14.
Canyon Barry is from Colorado Springs and went to Cheyenne Mountain High School. Both of his parents, Lynn Norenberg Barry and Rick Barry, played basketball for Team USA. Canyon’s 3×3 team won first place at the 2023 Pan American Games.
Jimmer Fredette is from Glenn Falls, New York, and now lives in Littleton. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and played for seven seasons in the NBA. He was part of the first US Olympic Men’s 3×3 team.

Basketball
In men’s basketball, Team USA plays South Sudan, and Serbia plays Puerto Rico.
Derrick White, from Parker, plays on the U.S. team, and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic plays for his native Serbia.
This is Jokic’s second Olympics. In the 2016 Rio Games, he led Serbia to a silver medal, coming in second to Team USA.
White played three seasons at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and one season at the University of Colorado. He now plays for the Boston Celtics. This is his first Olympics.

Jessica Thoennes, from Highlands Ranch, and her partner Azja Czajkowski qualified on Sunday for the medal round in women’s pair rowing.
Thoennes was a walk-on to the University of Washington rowing team. She won in pairs rowing at the 2024 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials with Czajkowski. This is her second games, after her women’s eight boat finished two seconds behind the bronze medalists at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Soccer
Coming off their win over Germany, the U.S. women’s soccer team plays Australia on Wednesday in group play. Three Colorado players are on the team: captain Lindsey Horan, of Golden; Mallory Swanson, of Highlands Ranch, and Sophia Smith, of Windsor. In the team’s first game of these Olympics, Swanson scored two goals and Horan had two assists.
Another Colorado native, Janine Beckie, plays for Canada due to her dual citizenship. She’s from Highlands Ranch and attended Valor Christian High School before going to play for Texas Tech. This is her third Olympics: She led Canada’s soccer team to a bronze in 2016 and a gold in 2020.

Tennis
Rajeev Ram, originally from Denver, is a former world No. 1 and is competing in doubles with another former No. 1, Austin Krajicek. He’s a three-time Olympian and won silver at the 2016 Rio Games in mixed doubles. His current hometown of Carmel, Ind., named a street temporarily in his honor.
Rajeev and Krajicek defeated a Brazilian pair on Tuesday and are in the quarterfinals Wednesday against Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal of Spain.

Triathlon
Taylor Knibb is competing in her second sport of the Summer Olympics in triathlon. Knibb, who lives in Boulder, is a silver medalist from the 2020 Games in the mixed relay event in triathlon. She competed in her first time trial in 2023 at the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championship and placed fourth, then came back and won the event this year, earning her spot on Team USA’s cycling team.
The men’s triathlon is scheduled for Wednesday after it was postponed. Morgan Pearson, from New Vernon, New Jersey, is a seven-time All-American at the University of Colorado Boulder. He won a silver medal as a member of the U.S. relay team at the debut mixed relay event in Tokyo. In 2021, he became the first American man to win multiple World Triathlon Champion Series medals.

Volleyball


The U.S. women’s volleyball team won gold in the 2020 Tokyo Games and are embarking on another chance to stand atop the podium. Two players with Colorado ties are on the roster: Haleigh Washington and Jordyn Poulter.
Washington, of Colorado Springs, led Doherty High School to the state title in 2012 and Penn State to the NCAA Division I title in 2014. She started her professional career in Italy in 2018 and is now on the U.S. Women’s National Team. This is her second Olympics. She was named the best middle blocker in Tokyo.
Poulter went to Eaglecrest High School in Aurora. She has competed in every major tournament for the United States. This is her second Olympics, and she was named best setter at the Tokyo Olympics. In her free time, she is an aspiring filmmaker and plays the piano and guitar.
