AURORA, Colorado — Two people have been sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed a 16-year-boy at an Aurora hotel in 2022.
Ronald Calderon Ramirez, 16, was killed and four other people were injured in the shooting March 9, 2022 at the Quality Inn on North Ouray Street, near the Interstate 70 and Airport Boulevard interchange. One of the suspects, then-18-year-old Rafael Martinez, was among those injured, Aurora police said at the time.
A total of four suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting.
Martinez, now 20, pleaded guilty in April to second-degree murder, according to court records. He was sentenced June 5 to six years in the youthful offender system. He was also given a deferred sentence of 21 years in prison, which he would only have to serve if he did not successfully complete his six-year sentence.
Damian Lucero, who was 17 at the time of the shooting and is now 19, pleaded guilty in March to second-degree murder, according to court records. He was sentenced May 30 to seven years in the youthful offender system. He was also given a deferred sentence of 21 years in prison, which he would only have to serve if he did not successfully complete his seven-year sentence.
A third suspect, who wasn’t identified, was initially charged with accessory to a crime and possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
A fourth suspect, 19-year-old Rizvan Rastogor, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges. His next court appearance is set for Aug. 21, according to court documents.
