Two teenage girls were brought from South Dakota, through Colorado, to Nebraska against their will, according to law enforcement agencies.
AULT, Colo. — Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) arrested two men for transporting two teen girls across state lines against their will, along with a litany of charges for other crimes in both Nebraska and Colorado.
Marquise Spotted Eagle, 20, and Davation Taylor, 23, were arrested in Nebraska for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, aiding and abetting, child endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to NSP. Both men are from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They were placed in Lincoln County Jail.
A warrant is also out for Spotted Eagle in Ault, Colorado, for assault in the second degree, menacing, prohibited use of a weapon, child abuse and harassment, according to the Ault Police Department.
On Monday, an Ault police officer was called to an area north of town on Highway 85 around 8:30 a.m.. When that officer arrived, they spoke to a teenage girl who said she was left in Ault by two men who had taken her, without consent, from Sioux Falls.
According to Ault Police, the men travelled to Colorado, committing a series of crimes in a stolen vehicle along the way. Police said the teen argued with the two men and one of the men pointed an AR-15 style rifle at the teen’s head before assaulting her with it, police said. They then traveled to Fort Collins, leaving the teen in Ault.
The teen told officers that the men still had her 13-year-old friend.
Ault Police launched a multi-state, multi-jurisdictional investigation to find the second teen who was still with the two men, who were also believed to be armed and dangerous. According to NSP, they began searching for a stolen Toyota Sienna that was believed to be traveling up Highway 83. They were told a teen may be in danger traveling with two men.
With the help of NSP, the men and teenage girl were found in another stolen vehicle less than five hours later. The teen was found safe, and the men were arrested. She had been previously reported missing in South Dakota, NSP said.
Further investigation revealed that the men had also stolen a vehicle in Sioux Falls, NSP said, and that the vehicle contained a rifle.
Law enforcement officers found the rifle on the side of Highway 83, and NSP said they believe it was thrown from the van as the trooper approached.
Ault Police ask that witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may have seen a Red VW Beetle with a tan colored convertible top in Ault between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 11, 2024, to contact Detective Sergeant Shippy at 970-356-1212.
