Police are calling the shooting an “isolated incident.” They said there is no threat to the community.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A suspect is in custody after one person was killed in a shooting outside the El Paso County Courthouse in downtown Colorado Springs Thursday morning, the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
Police said the shooting happened just after 10 a.m. in front of the courthouse on Tejon Street. Police said the person’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police said this was not an active shooter situation and there is no threat to the community. They said the shooting “appears to be an isolated incident.”
Police said a suspect has been taken into custody.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department said two people were treated on the scene for minor injuries. It’s unclear how those two people were injured, but police said they were not shot.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said people who were in the courthouse at the time were released from the south entrance. The courthouse is closed for the remainder of the day. Colorado Courts said anyone with a court appearance there today can call 719-452-5000 to reschedule.
